Windows Operating System Update

Post by Alpha111 » 15 Jan 2020, 13:45

You all should run Windows Update immediately, and then reboot right after it completes. A series of patches were released today that fix a number of extremely critical issues. One of them in particular is serious enough that the NSA made this public statement: https://media.defense.gov/2020/Jan/14/2 ... 190114.PDF

It has been discovered that there is a flaw in the Windows Update system itself that allows individuals to essentially fake an update on your PC, granting them control and access to it. According to the NSA press release, the only known mitigating factor to prevent this vulnerability is to immediately run an update as Microsoft has sent out patches to prevent this exploit from occurring.

7 has the potential same issue as Windows builds previous versions on the same kernel and Windows 7 is no longer receiving security updates. So no, it is not in fact better in this case.
