On a badly needed lighter note, here's a song about the current state of affairs (lyrics, anyway):

Masks for everyone. Just the facts, and almost anything works.

Been seeing a lot of stuff like that. We've been compiling a list of of oldies ourselves:

"Don't Stand So Close To Me" - The Police
"Can't Touch This" - M.C. Hammer
"Stuck In The Middle With You" - Stealers Wheel (my favorite so far-"clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right...")

Any takers?

Some good news for me is my sister and her husband can now work from home and they got a little daughter who has a compromised immune system so that is good that they can try to stop it from coming in their house. Also my parents both got laid off (with pay) and thats good as my dad has breathing problems which would make him at extremely high risk for this. Both of them were going to retire in July and now they will likely just take unemployment until they have to go back and then retire vs risking there health. I was most worried about my niece and dad so thats good they should be OK.

How many of you guys and gals are able to work form home vs having to work vs being laid off and paid to do nothing?

I run my own business which took a big hit from this and not eligible for unemployment but will be able to pay bills with money I got coming in so not the end of the world, just a pain in the ass being stuck at home but to me that is better than potentially injuring someone else.

I was dwindling down my hours anyway, since I earn more working online. If I return it'll be part time at best, just for the chat. Can't understand why so many are still loitering the streets. It had me thinking, if this wasn't a pandemic that targeted mainly the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, you'd be watching natural selection play out before your very eyes. Smarter cookies would be holed up with their baked beans, tinned tuna and ramen noodles, and the muppets would still be out there topping up their E-Cigs on a daily basis.

Well this just happened:

1. New presidential executive order signed in the USA that will call up 1 million reservists and National Guardsmen to active-duty for up to 2 years (this is unheard of except for times of war, and I don't remember the Iraq or Afghanistan wars calling up a million reservists to active-duty):

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential ... tive-duty/

2. TWO U.S. aircraft carriers (the USS Roosevelt and the USS Reagan) are out of commission for at least one month. All 10K sailors from both ships are in quarantine in Japan and Guam. ZERO carriers are now on patrol in the whole Pacific region. The loose lips in the Navy who leaked this also leaked where all 11 aircraft carriers are presently (only two of them are even operational now [stationed in the Mideast] after the two Pacific carriers got shut down by the coronavirus):

Things are worse and worse. Although people must wear masks here in Czechia there are more infected people every day. There are infected people everywhere in the world no matter if they wear masks or not. Last days it's about 12 % more every day. I've tried to count what happens in one month. According to my calculation there will be about 30 million infected people in the world and it means about 1.26 million deaths in May 1st.
If there won't be any efficient cure there will be over 1 billion infected people and over 42 million dead people on July 1st. And it's still beginning of pandemia. Spain flu took almost for two years between 1918 - 1920 for example.
And if somebody survives it doesn't need to be victory, many of recovered people have damaged lungs so it means they can die during "ordinary" flu in few next months/years.

I’ve seen a few articles posted in this thread from the Daily Mail. Fyi for anyone who doesn’t know, that’s the UK equivalent of Fox news. It’s fine to read it for celebrity haircut news, but make sure you’re getting a broad spectrum of views about more serious issues from other sources too.

Crazy times, LA Mayor is saying lockdown in CA will be until May, maybe longer.
They are looking at taking sports venues such as Staples Center (LA Lakers/Clipper arena) and turning it into a hospital.
In Vegas we are lucky as I would assume they'll take casinos from the strip and turn them into hospitals as they already got beds, got huge kitchens, basically unlimited rooms as we got 150k rooms and a lot have 2 beds. Our cities population is just over 2m so we are good on beds but short on ventilators and protective gear for Drs/Nurses/EMTs, etc...

Also heard from friends in military that anyone with a medical background is being asked to come back to the military to help out.

I'm in the UK. I'm hearing pretty worrying things coming out of larger cities, but living in a tiny village in the middle nowhere actually seems to have it's advantages.
The local food supply chain still seems to be working OK (for now) and I grow a lot of food myself. I can go out for a walk each day without seeing anyone, which is nice.
As quite an asocial person, isolation isn't upsetting me, but I know some folks who are really suffering mentally.
